Current UK concerns about elderly people , hospital bed allocation and funding shortages for home care & care homes put pressure on Local Authorities.
Some areas are joining up the NHS , Social Services and Care Homes- practical organisational and cultural change and they deserve praise.
Adequate funding is naturally a priority. There is also an urgent use case for digital transformation to follow these examples of leadership. There are signs, however, that the opposite is happening in government .
If they are going to take "the bull by the horns" central and local government will have to reverse this trend.
That is because the challenge presented by the ageing population is not just about what happens in one corner of the sector - council-funded care home places and home help - it is about the whole health and care system.
