Healthcare is an area that should benefit from the IoT and patient "self-service" solutions.

Take care homes. When an elderly resident seems ill how is her condition diagnosed especially if there is no nursing professional present?

Probably a doctor is called taking time- maybe a call-centre triaging the process between the surgery, the care home and possibly local hospital.  This used to be efficient but in today's connected world seems positively backward-looking.

Howe more effective if a doctor could check a live video-data stream to check visual signs in addition to temperature and other indicators.  Maybe prescribe simple drugs, decide to visit or arrange for ambulance to hospital.

The technology platforms are available without having to throw away the legacy systems in hospitals, social care and GP surgeries. But cultural resistance to change, security worries and budget silos do not help.

Maybe the Health Insurance Industry is the necessary catalyst to change?
